Alamo Medical Research (AMR) is an organization dedicated to clinical research specializing in Phase I-3 Gastroenterology and Hepatitis C clinical trials since 1994. Our Medical Director and Principal Investigator, Dr. Eric J. Lawitz is very well known for his vast research experience, knowledge and publications specifically aimed at Hepatitis C.

Our mission focus is on delivering the highest quality of products and services to our sponsors and facilitating access to the latest and most innovative clinical trials to our community. AMR is co-located and associated with Digestive Diseases Center of South Texas, a multi-physician gastroenterology practice which provides a steady source of potential subjects. AMR is also co-located and associated with the GAB Endoscopy Center which facilitates ready access for endoscopic services. AMR is a well known and respected referral center and community resource for the latest clinical trials in Chronic Hepatitis C.


Facility Features

Our center is modern and well equipped with an Expanded Phase 1 unit to accommodate all participating subjects. We are knowledgeable, experienced, organized, efficient and very motivated. We utilize Central IRBs for rapid approvals. We routinely get projects started, enrolling and subjects treatment initiated months before university-based researchers. We have met all enrollment targets and are frequently the leading enrollment site for multi-centered trials. We have a fully qualified and experienced professional, research and support staff.


What is Gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases involving the digestive system which extends from the mouth to the anus (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum) and also includes liver, gall bladder, and pancreas.

Common symptoms of digestive diseases are abdominal pain, nauseaus feeling, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting blood, passing blood with stools, loss of weight, indigestion, bloatiness, heartburn, change in bowel habits, discoloration of urine or skin, and many others.

Some of the specific diagnosis or conditions gastroenterologists deal with are gastroesophageal reflux, Barrett's metaplasia, gastritis, peptic ulcers, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, celiac sprue, hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis, gallstones, polyps and cancer of the digestive organs.

The early detection and diagnosis of digestive diseases, their treatment and the prevention of complications are the main functions of a gastroenterologist.
